This past weekend (8th October 2011) I had the pleasure of experiencing a full spa ritual at The Maryborough Hotel & Spa. A recent birthday gift after hitting the big "Four Oh" landmark I was really looking forward to this indulgence. Having gotten up early with great anticipation to watch the Ireland v Wales Rugby World Cup Quarter Final which kicked off at 6am, my 10am appointment could not have come quick enough following the dissapointment of that result!
I arrived a little after 9am in order to take full advantage of the facilities at the Spa before the main event - Spa Ritual with A Full Body Massage!
After being pleasantly greeted at the spa reception and filling out the standard mandatory forms, I received my fresh towel, bathrobe and flip-flops and was escorted to the Mens Thermal Suite which consists of a Vitality Pool, Lifestyle Showers, Steam Bath, Rock Sauna, Heated Lounges and Ice Fountain.
The second I submerged myself into the Vitality Pool I could feel the stresses and strains start to vanish as the heated water soothed and relaxed my whole body. The Lifestyle Showers powerful forces helped massage my tense shoulders and I was immediatly lost in the peaceful and relaxing surroundings of the Thermal Suite. I spent a good relaxing half hour in the Thermal Suita and, after also taking advantage of the Steam Bath and Rock Sauna, I had a quick shower before heading for the Male Only Relaxation Room for some Water and Fresh Fruit and to chill out before being collected for my massage by my therapist.
Right on time Nicola, my therapist for the morning, came to greet me and escort me to our very spacious and luxurious treatment room. After a short friendly consultation where we discussed my particular requirements such as any areas of particular concern and preferred massage pressure (of course I went for the manly FIRM option!), I got to choose my preferred oil based on the odour of two sampled bottles. I settled on one that turned out to be an Energising Oil, and we were all set.
The massage lasted a full hour and it was the most relaxing and enjoyable one I ever had. I could swear I dropped off 2 or 3 times during it, but not completely - you know when you just doze off for just a few seconds before coming back around and realising where you were? - that's how relaxed I was. Even the massage bed itself was heated and added to the overall comfort of the treatment.
Nicola worked wonders and I couldn't recommend her highly enough!
After the massage we had another quick chat as Nicola gave me some advise to help prevent soreness in some areas that she felt were that bit tight during the massage. I was then led back to the Men's Relaxtion Room where I spent another half hour relaxing on one of the 8 beds with some more fruit, juices and fresh water.
I was advised to leave the oils soak in to me all day to get the full benefit of their soothing porpeties so declined having a final shower before I left - around 3 hours after first arriving - feeling totally relaxed and alive and ready for the rest of the weekend and the mayhem that 2 kids under 6 will undoubtedy provide.
My thanks to all at the Maryborough Spa for such a pleasant experience which I cannot recommend highly enough to all - Men and Women!
